The Humane Tails.” From humble beginnings in 1952, when they had space for just 48 dogs and 6 cats, to officially becoming a no-kill shelter in 2009, to saving 2,730 lives last year, HSSC is committed to helping animals and the people who love them.
As the area’s premier no-kill shelter, HSSC engages the hearts, hands, and minds of the community to help animals. They envision a community where every animal is cared for and loved. Their programs and services include adoptions, foster and volunteer opportunities, pet therapy, K-9 obedience courses, humane education, a pet food pantry, and an affordable public animal clinic.
Whether someone is adopting a pet, looking for affordable vet care, wanting to pitch in and give back, or needing a helping hand, HSSC is a true community resource. But HSSC’s support does not stop at the county line. Through a robust network of partnerships, HSSC takes in animals from over-burdened and under-resourced shelters near and far while simultaneously collaborating with animal welfare leaders to build a more humane state, region, and country.
