The Education Foundation of Sarasota County (EFSC) is the ONLY local non-profit solely dedicated to funding/supporting Sarasota County Schools. Their mission focuses on three primary efforts:
Enhance the Potential of Students
Promote Excellence in Teaching
Inspire Innovation in Education
The Hayes family closed on the sale of their first home and chose to dedicate half of their Catalist Commission Donation to the EFSC. The donation was originally marked at $1,105.00. Prior to closing on the house, we proposed a more strategic donation strategy that included utilizing the Community Foundation of Sarasota County’s Giving Challenge to achieve additional matched funds from their partner, the Patterson Foundation. This resulted in a final donation amount of $1,905.00.
At the end of the day, the money doesn’t matter nearly as much as the cause. The true value is what this can do for the children within the Sarasota County School District. The EFSC shared some potential scenarios for where this money could go, and what kind of impact it will have:
Provide 2 innovative classroom grants, allowing teachers to enhance their classroom curriculum
Fund 80 students to visit a local business for a day of experiential career learning
Fund 15 teachers to attend professional development training
Sponsor 15 students to participate in an intensive three-day “Hack-a-thon” conference
Provide 150 students access to Naviance, a college and career planning tool that helps them unlock their full potential
The most important thing is that this money is donated to the EFSC as a part of their “Unrestricted Funds” allowing them to spend it in the most critical area of need at the time. Unrestricted donations are the largest need for non-profits, and typically the hardest donations to find.
