While the solution has yet to be identified, there are several organizations spearheading programs to support and eventually eliminate homelessness. The most well-known of these organizations is the Salvation Army of Sarasota.

F.E.L.T. foundress, Jane L. Evers realized Manatee County had a dark secret.  We are home to thousands of homeless students who go hungry every weekend. In 2010 Jane introduced Feeding Empty Little Tummies to 3 Manatee County public schools which has since grown to service 32 schools and counting.  Jane’s vision to provide nutritious meals to homeless students is still being fulfilled by their dedicated board, volunteers and community leaders. Currently F.E.L.T. is feeding 715 students 6 wholesome meals each and every weekend.

Each child in the F.E.L.T. backpack program is pre-qualified by Project Heart.  Project Heart is the Manatee School

Habitat for Humanity is a leader in providing affordable housing to working families in Sarasota, Florida. This organization builds homes and then helps qualified candidates purchase the homes with 0% mortgage interest and extremely affordable payment plans. They have served over 300 families in Sarasota. Habitat Sarasota also manages a used furniture and home improvement store that funds their operational budget allowing all financial gifts to the organization to go directly towards home construction costs.

The Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC) is our State Certified Non-Profit supporting Sarasota and Desoto Counties with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services. This organization is vital in treating victims and supporting social work, while prioritizing social change through community awareness, education and prevention programs.

This week we are fortunate to highlight a very special donation from one of our very first clients. They have a long standing relationship with SPARCC, with several family members actively participating on boards and committees for the non-profit. This particular donation is being given in honor of
